Aberavon Kite Tail

Tweddell & Slater provided structural design services for the largest single piece of artwork to be installed in Wales. The Aberavon Kite Tail is a 42-foot-high, 17-tonne work of art designed by Carmarthenshire-based Andrew Rowe.

The artwork presented a unique set of challenges and complexities in terms of the structural design, as it was made entirely of steel and effectively entailed keeping approximately 17 tonnes of flowing steel forms aloft with seemingly very little contact with the ground.

The huge work of art is accompanied by a partner piece, The Taper, also built with structural advice from Tweddell & Slater.
