A structural assessment of the building was carried out once the flood waters had receded, establishing that the river had eroded the adjacent walkway in addition to a significant portion of the building’s foundations.

The structural assessment and civil engineering works required a number of novel approaches, from using divers and remote cameras to assess flooded areas beneath the building, to the use of a floating pontoon to pump concrete directly into the foundations. Steel piles were driven into the river bed along the side of the brewery to prevent a recurrence of the erosion.
